Privacy policy
Pitch collects nothing about you.
There is no account, no sign-in and no server. Nothing you do in Pitch is recorded anywhere except on your own phone, and nothing is sent to us, because there is no “us” to send it to — no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising identifier, no third-party tracking of any kind.
This is not a policy written around what the app happens to do today. It is a design decision the app is built on: every feature works in airplane mode, and a change that needed a server would be a change to what Pitch is.
What stays on your phone
Your spots, your photographs, your gear, your kit lists and your trips are files in Pitch’s own storage on your device. They are included in your iPhone backup if you back your phone up, because that is your backup and not ours. Deleting the app deletes them.
Your location is used only while the app is open, to show where you are on the map and to give you a bearing back to a spot you saved. It is never uploaded. The camera is used only while the “Scan a pitch code” screen is open, to read a code someone showed you; nothing is photographed or stored.
What leaves your phone, and only when you send it
Nothing leaves unless you deliberately send it:
- a pitch code you read out or show to somebody;
- a file you export or share — your spots, or a trip — which goes wherever you choose to send it, through your phone’s own share sheet.
In each case you decide what is sent and to whom. Pitch never sends anything on its own.
The one network request Pitch can make
The map has an optional aerial photography layer, which is off unless you turn it on. While it is on, the app fetches map imagery from Esri’s tile service, which necessarily means your device asks for tiles covering the area you are looking at. No account, no identifier and nothing about you is sent with those requests, and they stop the moment you switch the layer off.
Everything else — the contour map of Great Britain, the elevation data, the rivers, the access land and the place-name search — is stored inside the app and needs no connection at all.
Children
Pitch collects no personal data from anybody, of any age.
Changes
If this ever stops being true, this page changes before the app does, and the change will say plainly what is now collected and why.
